One thing I like about TOTK is how much it encourages you to balance your exploration in the 3 “zones.” In the sky you’ll find sundelions and treasure maps for the depths, as well as Sage’s Wills and Zonai devices (and charges) which help with all levels. On the ground - in caves in particular - is where you can find the brightbloom seeds that help you see in the depths. It’s also the best place to get bombs and gems. Many of the non-treasure map outfits are also in caves. The depths have Zonaite - which can be turned into batteries which makes travelling (particularly in the sky) much easier. The schema stones and Yiga schematics give new build ideas. And of course the locations of lightroots can help reveal shrine locations (and vice versa). And not to mention all levels have unique ingredients and materials for cooking, potions, and/or outfit upgrades. It’s a cool relationship! I think it encourages exploring the areas in a more balanced way or you’ll run out of something. Like spend too long in the sky and become frustrated you don’t have enough battery power - so you explore the depths for zonaite. But if you’re there too long you’ll run out brightbloom seeds - okay so that makes it cave time! Etc etc. I made it a point to do one of the Yiga depth missions after every dungeon and I think that was a good call.
My favorite parts about BOTW/TOTK was how grandiose the final boss fights were. I thought BOTW was a perfect Zelda final boss in terms of gameplay, but then TOTK improved on perfection. 😆 I also really like how they incorporated the general themes of the gameplay, with BOTW having the final boss in the open world and TOTK adding verticality to it, just like the gameplay. Another favorite thing I have about “two-part” games like this (BOTW/TOTK, TWEWY/NEO, etc.) is that they call back to the original in terms of theming and story. Weird relationship, but I compare games like these to Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Returns, where the sequel isn’t supposed to be better than the original. It’s a “love letter” of sorts to the original, by adding more depth to the original story, similar story beats and themes, and similar themes in terms of gameplay and mechanics for the games while adding a new spin on them, all while being suitable for new players who haven’t played/watched the original. And that’s BRILLIANT writing and game design/direction. ❤❤❤
Congrats on completing this masterpiece. I know when I beat the game I was very emotional not only because of the story but my original adventure was ending. It is really a great game and is one of those I would vote to have my memories removed to replay again. I get why some original Zelda fans aren't high on this game and respect some of their opinions. However any video or article that rips this game apart/paint it as a horrible game I usually can just scrap it as a joke when it usually starts with "Its whatever year I'm whatever age playing my Nintendo 64 and this new game for my favorite video game series The Legend of Zelda has just come out called Ocarina of Time". I am in NO WAY bashing Ocarina of Time. LOVE that game too (played it after BotW). But those videos that paint BotW/TotK as terrible/bad games do so cause the games are not in the exact style they like pretty much making it easy for me to igore them. Hats off for trying something new and basically bringing the series to new heights and bringing in new fans (such as myself).
Congrats on beating Tears! I really REALLY enjoyed this game, and 100%ed the game (Koroks, Map Locations, Recipes, Armor, etc). I can't wait until I'm up to doing this again on my own channel instead of off stream. I have fought that final battle so many times because it's just. THAT. FUN! Really happy you enjoyed the game, looking forward to what you're up to next!
I loved TOFT but I agree it's very long and I got overwhelmed in the beginning with how much there was to do. The Ganondorf end boss and final phase was what I wanted to happen. Had a great time but glad to put it away
Congrats on beating TotK! After my playthrough, it became my favorite Zelda. Lol I'm guessing Echoes of Wisdom is gonna come later because I'd imagine you both are Zelda-out from such a massive game. Anyways, onto the bear and bird! ^^
I haven't watched any of the TOTK VOD's, simply because I'm not the biggest fan of Zelda or care much for Zelda, but congrats on beating the game regardless.
I like tears more, for me it's just better over all, it's only down side was coming out after botw so the big "open world" thing doesn't hit as hard as it did with BotW.
@@TM_AZ Unfortunately that implies that Majora's Mask was trying to do what Tears of The Kingdom tried to which is the same game but again and "better." OOT and MM may share that same core DNA but they are vastly different experiences while BOTW and TOTK don't get to enjoy that vast of differences.
Congrats on finishing Tears of the Kingdom! I have possibly controversial opinions, but I do like Breath of the Wild much more than its supposed-to-be sequel. I have many gripes with Tears of the Kingdom, and while I didn't _dislike_ it, there are many things about the game I didn't like. Like you said, it didn't have the same sense of awe and wonder that BotW had, because most of the world was already so familiar. I didn't like the "more is better" approach. A lot of the map is just empty, and people already complained about this in BotW. With TotK having a bigger map... it becomes so much more obvious. ANYWAY. The Wind Temple was my favourite part of the game by far, from the music to the entire climb up to the temple and Colgera... so good. Fantastic, even. I liked the final battle. Was kinda lukewarm about a lot of the in-between stuff. 😅 (The irony of the BotW music used in the endslate 😂👌)
@@megastarwarsrocks99 Not fixing any problems is a BIG stretch to say. I found it a blessing I could make myself a strong hammer for both melee and mining ore on the go when I needed to. That is one of many things improved but sure nothing was better.
After watching some play throughs on RUclips I felt this incarnation of Ganondorf (final battle) was a call back to Demise from Skyward Sword. Not sure if this was any intention from the graphic artists or not.
I’m so excited for when they eventually get to that! What’s interesting is that unlike many of the previous Mario games where Stephen had played them and Mal hadn’t - in this case it’s the opposite. Mal’s played it and Stephen just has a couple hours. Should make an interesting dynamic!
As someone who doesn't really care for Zelda. I'm so excited for other video games. I just tend to keep that opinion to myself because I still enjoyed the intermission banter in Zelda streams (especially cooking alerts) and more so i didn't want to kill anyone's joy by constantly talking about looking forward to something new.
You beat the game, well done--but to be perfectly candid, you've only _barely_ scratched the surface of what the game has to offer. Not downplaying you or anything. And I don't even specifically mean the fact that you barely touched the Depths, the fact that you mostly wrote off the camera, the Koroks, and Addison the Sign Guy. Not even the sidequests. No, there's just a lot more after that that you barely even interacted with. I could go on to list what new things you never even saw, what changes you never even noticed, what loredrops you won't remember. But instead, I'll just say this--should you ever pick up the game again, whether for streaming, or for leisure, there's _so much more_ for you to discover if you just explore beyond the comfort zone that playing BotW established. Because, going by that, you're completely underselling how much TotK built upon this iteration of Hyrule. If you think more about enjoying the game and less about finishing it as quickly as possible, who knows what possibilities you may discover? Have fun!
I'm honestly not sure which I liked more. BotW was never really my favorite Zelda game (it's like a solid 7/10 for me), but I agree that it feels fresher in the sense that it has an "untamed wilderness" feeling to it compared to TotK. The story is simpler but felt like it benefitted more from the open world, where I feel like TotK actually got hurt by the game's open-ended nature. Like, why can you see the tears out of order and spoil yourself?? Why do the sages say the same shit every time?? Even BotW had more variety in what the Champions said lmao. The story also felt jumbled; trying to tell a traditional Zelda story with an open world didn't really work out cleanly, but there were some pretty cool moments. I liked the sky and depths, but to be honest there's not much to them even though they're cool thematically. The combat has more depth thanks to combining trinkets and the ability to make stuff with ultrahand, which gives the gameplay more variety. However, it also felt clunkier to compared to BotW which, while simple, felt straightforward in a comfortable way. The bosses were definitely cooler in ToTK though; Ganon's design and fight was sick even if he wasn't super involved in the story directly. The dungeons were pretty fun but half the time it felt like I was brute-forcing the puzzles and some temples definitely felt more elaborate than others. I kinda like having to find one solution, and TotK's temples felt like a step back in that regard from the Divine Beasts since I liked the rotation gimmick those had. The fact that this open-ended design philosophy is continuing in top-down Zelda now with Echoes of Wisdom also doesn't really interest or excite me and I think it's kinda unfortunate how both styles of Zelda are getting their design philosophies homogenized. So I guess while a lot of the new things and places added in TotK were cool and the bosses were better, it didn't really feel like a significant jump from BotW. The story also felt more convoluted and was hindered by the game's open-ended nature. To be honest, I think Age of Calamity might be my favorite Zelda in the BotW timeline, though this is coming from someone who likes the older style of 3D Zelda better so my thoughts might not resonate with everybody lmao
"Theres so much game" and you spent almost none of it in the depths. I really dont know if you can say you actually played the game with that. It was funny to see you absolutely, unnecessarily terrified of the depths, but boring at the same time. I was hoping you would atleast strive to get all of the lightroots.

It seemed very intentional to me, his whole design, as well as the general themes of the game, seemed very inspired by skyward swords lore
Nice ;-)
Now you should make a live reaction video of SkittyBitty's 3 hour and a half "I HATE TEARS OF THE KINGDOM"" , it's solid :) and over 650k views
It only took 69 weeks

Here's hoping for Echoes of Wisdom after Banjo
I imagine they’ll be taking a multi-year Zelda break lol
